Sichuan university now has 30 academic colleges and has an enrollment of over 40000 students , offering 126 undergraduate programs , which covers 10 faculties -- Philosophy、Economics、Law、Arts、History、Science、Engineer、Agricultures、Medicine and Management. Under its administration, there are 9 national bases for Talent-training and Teaching in basic courses , 1 national base of Culture Education for college students, 7 national experimental-teaching Demonstration centers , 20 National Quality Courses and 10 University Distinguished Teachers.
Sichuan university always focuses on basic general education, during which the university actively explores new credit models, strengthens “412” undergraduate programs and accelerates the program of becoming a first-rate comprehensive research university worldwide with creative talents cultivated. Abiding by the target of becoming the first-rate comprehensive research university in China, the university adopts the approach of student-centered、research-respected and standard excellent, meets the management system of department-focused, teacher-strengthened, students-centered and makes sure that the target for cultivating elite should have deeply humanities, profound professional knowledge, strongly innovative deal, broad international horizon. As achieving the goals, the university takes measures in the following aspects: opening mainly research-oriented lab to undergraduates for student research training program by encouraging students to take part in the teacher’s research group; adopting the modern teaching ways to promote teaching and research-study reforms; establishing all kinds of cooperative relationships with famous universities aboard to improve their communicative ability and international competitiveness and taking a series of special steps for talents selection.
In recent years, Sichuan University has taken many kinds of reforms to enhance the talents cultivation. In 2008, the university has carried out a series of policies to encourage the teachers and students to participate in earthquake relief, post-earthquake epidemic prevention and reconstruction. On the basis of these policies, the university attaches great importance to the reform of undergraduate thesis, emphasizing that the thesis should be high-qualified and diversified. At the same time, it promotes the cultivated program for students who have special hobbies and interests. Therefore, Sichuan university forms three innovative talents cultivation system – each for comprehensive innovative talents、elite students and special interest students. The students has acquired great achievements in many contests, including national challenge、electric design、math modeling，English speech contest、English debate competition、performance arts、football competition etc.
