Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand Visits Sichuan University
On April 8, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand visited Sichuan University and was awarded the title of honorary professor of Sichuan University. President Xie Heping,Vice Present Shi Jian and representatives from relevant departments attended the ceremony.
At the welcoming ceremony held in the Water-hall of Jiang’an campus, President Xie Heping awarded the certificate of Sichuan University (SCU) honorary professor to Princess Sirindhorn. Princess Sirindhorn delivered a thanks speech in fluent Chinese. She said that Sichuan University is a prestigious comprehensive Chinese university with profound cultural background and solid educational foundation. She was happy to become a family member of Sichuan University. Princess Sirindhorn pointed out that Sichuan University and Thai universities have a long history of exchange and cooperation. Now more than 40 Thai students are studying at Sichuan University. She hoped that Sichuan University and Thai universities could further strengthen exchanges and cooperation and train more talents for two countries.
Then,President Xie Heping gave the calligraphy written by himself to Princess Sirindhorn as a gift. Princess Sirindhorn read out the content of calligraphy in Chinese softly,“China and Thailand are as close as one family”.
After the welcoming ceremony, accompanied by President Xie Heping, Princess Sirindhorn went to plant and watered the ginkgo tree symbolizing the ever-lasting friendship between China and Thailand and unveiled the "Sino-Thai friendship Tree " stone stele together with President Xie Heping.
