On September 19, President Xie Heping met with the visiting Governor of Arizona， USA, Ms. Janice K. Brewer in the VIP room of Water Front Hall on Jiang’an Campus. Vice President Shi Jian and leaders from relevant offices and colleges attended the meeting.
On behalf of the University, President Xie Heping welcomed Ms. Janice K. Brewer and her delegation. Briefing the guests on University’s history, scale, discipline construction, international exchanges and other aspects, President Xie pointed out that Sichuan University, a national key university located in Western China has a broad cooperation space with universities in Arizona in regional collaboration, cultural communication, college cooperation and other fields, hoping the governor’s visit can further deepen the friendship between the peoples of the two provinces and promote exchanges and cooperation between the State of Arizona and Sichuan Province and between Sichuan University and universities in Arizona.
Ms. Janice K. Brewer, Governor of Arizona thanked Sichuan University for its hospitality and she said that with a number of well-known universities situated in Arizona, the state government attaches great importance to the construction of colleges and universities, sparing no effort to improve the quality of education. She hoped that based on the existing friendly relationship, the universities in Arizona and Sichuan University can further expand exchanges and cooperation .
Later, Ms. Janice K. Brewer, made a speech in the Water Front Hall. Vice President Shi Jian presided over the speech.
Governor Janice K. Brewer said she was very glad to have the opportunity to lead a high-level government and business delegation to Chengdu, Phoenix's sister city. Her visit aimed to explore opportunities and overcome current challenges. After briefly introducing Arizona, Governor Janice K. Brewer said that Arizona and Sichuan face many similar opportunities as well as challenges and the two provinces have a broad space for cooperation. She hoped that Arizona and Sichuan Province can further strengthen business and trade cooperation to achieve a win-win development.
At the same time, Ms. Kathryn Mohrman, Director of "the Sichuan University - Arizona State University Center for American Culture, (American side) gave a brief introduction about the Center for American Culture which was co-established by Arizona State University and Sichuan University in December 2010.
After the speech, the business delegation of Arizona had a talk with 20 undergraduate and postgraduate students of Sichuan University. American guests and our students had an in-depth communication and discussion on China-US youth exchanges, further study in USA, the Sino-US economic cooperation, etc.
