On the morning of April 21st, Yan Shijing, Vice-president of Sichuan University , accompanied by relevant officials of the University, met with the delegation led by Michiel Kolman, the Present of the International Publisher Association and Senior Vice President of Global Academic Relations, Elsevier.
During the meeting, Vice-president Yan briefed the significant progress made by SCU in scientific research and discipline construction. He noted that, some experts and scholars from SCU served as editors-in-chief or members of the editorial board at journals affiliated to Elsevier. We hoped to further cooperate with Elsevier in order to strengthen the quality and internationalization of the periodicals operated by SCU, and promote the construction of a “World-class University”, he said.
Michiel Kolman not only introduced the basic information of Elsevier as well as the latest developments and changes, but also comparatively analyzed the publication data concerning SCU. He spoke highly of the scientific research performance of SCU in recent years; he also extended his good will to further cooperate with SCU in data mining and sharing as well as academic journal publishing.
Elsevier, a branch of Reed Elsevier Group, is reportedly one of the largest publishers in the world dedicated to medical and other scientific literature, with its headquarter located in Amsterdam. Elsevier publishes more than 2000 periodicals annually, including the top medical journals "Lancet", "Cell" and the textbook "Gray's Anatomy". Elsevier also provides a series of web-based electronic products, such as ScienceDirect, Scopus, Elsevier Research Intelligence and ClinicalKey. ScienceDirect (SD), a well-known academic database, has contributed greatly to the global academic research, with over 1 billion downloads per year.
