May 2nd, morning, President Xie Heping met with Douglas Schmidt, a tenured professor of University of Alberta, the Chief Scientist in Rock Physics of Canada, a member of Canadian Council of Professional Engineers and an academician in Earth Sciences. Vice President Yan Shijing, together with relevant personnel of SCU, attended the meeting.
During the meeting, President Xie noted that, the SCU is gifted with solid foundation and strong research capacity in rock mass mechanics, exploitation and utilization of underground resources, prevention of natural disasters, and so on, supported by series of major research projects. He then expressed an expectation that Prof. Schmidt could join in the SCU’s relevant research team, in an effort to pace up the research on rock mass mechanics and earth sciences, tackle world-class puzzles in joint efforts, and make greater contribution to the well-being of human beings.
Following a brief introduction of his team’s research field and recent research interests, Prof. Schmidt claimed that SCU’s researches on rock mass mechanics and natural disasters tally with his own researches; as SCU possesses many innovation and practice opportunities in relevant domains, he is desiring to further the cooperation and communication with SCU’s related teams, so as to jointly harvest more fruits.
