On the afternoon of November 15th, SCU President Xie Heping met with a small delegation led by the French Consul General in Chengdu, Madame Fabienne Mansencal. President Xie welcomed his guests in Mingde’s VIP Hall on the Wangjiang Campus of Sichuan University.
SCU Vice President Yan Shijing and representatives of relevant schools and departments joined the meeting. President Xie welcomed the delegation and gave a brief overview of Sichuan University’s history, it’s disciplinary strengths and accomplishments in research, and its current program of building a world-class university with internationally top-ranking disciplines within the framework of the national “dual-world-class university” construction project, or “shuang yiliu.” In the process of developing SCU into a globally top-ranking institution with internationally competitive disciplines and research bases, the university has outlined ten major goals, including first-class faculty construction, first-class talents cultivation, first-class research innovation systems, and first-class international cooperation and exchanges. President Xie drew attention to the significant cultural influence that France has exerted throughout the world over centuries. SCU has long since established French language and culture courses; in the past years, SCU has built solid partnerships with eleven French universities, which have resulted in fruitful collaboration. Xie is confident that the visit of Madame Fabienne Mansencal on behalf of France’s diplomatic mission in Chengdu will serve to strengthen cooperative ties between universities in France and Sichuan University and will also positively contribute to Sino-French relations overall. Xie hopes that Madame Mansencal will follow his invitation to hold a lecture at Sichuan University, helping students and scholars at SCU to better understand contemporary socio-economic developments in France and to develop a deeper appreciation of French culture.
Madame Fabienne Mansencal gratefully accepted the invitation, thanking President Xie for the warm reception at SCU. Recognizing the distinction of SCU in many disciplines and areas of scientific research, the French Consul General reiterated her continued support for advancing educational and scientific exchanges between SCU and French universities in the areas of talent cultivation, innovation, and academic research. Madame Mansencal expressed her firm intention to invest her efforts in further promoting comprehensive cooperation between the two sides.
