Recently, the “2010 MOE-IBM University Cooperation Project Annual Meeting and 15th Anniversary Celebration" was held in Tongji University, Shanghai. With ten other universities including Beijing University, Sichuan University won the “MOE-IBM University Cooperation Project 15th Anniversary Achievement Award”, while teacher Liu xiaojie from Computer/Software College of our university was granted with “MOE-IBM University Cooperation Project 15th Anniversary Special Memorial Award".
Since the formal launch of the project in March 1995, as one of the first batch of key partner universities, Sichuan University-IBM cooperation has witnessed 15 years of development. From the earliest development of campus network, establishment of IBM tech-center, to the ensuing cooperation with many colleges, IMB has donated many times softwares and hardwares to Sichuan University. In disciplinary development, faculty training, textbook development, IBM international certification, joint research, academic exchanges, student sci-tech activities, Sichuan University and IBM Corporation have made successful cooperation and IBM has made very positive contribution to the talent education and development of teaching and experiment platforms of our university.
In 2005, Sichuan University became one of the 8 domestic universities in the IBM mainframe education program and became one of the 7 domestic universities in the IBM Power System education program. In this context, students of Sichuan University have won special prizes for two times in the “IBM Mainframe Technology Application Nationwide Competition”. Several students and teachers of our university received IBM teaching awards and scholarships, while Sichuan University won for two consecutive years the “IBM Mainframe Distinguished Contribution Award”. In 2009, Yi Zongrui, a Grade 2006 student of Sichuan University, won the "Distinguished Contribution Award” in IBM’s global online debate. In view of the extraordinary achievements made by Sichuan University in academic exchanges and talent education, Sichuan University has received for many times the “IBM Award for Best School Collaboration" The achievement award granted to Sichuan University in the 15th anniversary highly recognized and valued the efforts by Sichuan University.
Leaders from Department of Science and Technology and Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges of MOE, IBM leadership, as well as distinguished guests from scores of IBM collaborating Chinese universities attended this pageant. The meeting summed up the achievements IBM has made during the past 15 years with its partners in talent education, disciplinary development and social services and looked into the future of school-enterprise cooperation and wisdom education.
