The TextileInstitute of Sichuan University was established in 1987 approved by the former Ministry of Textiles and the State Education Commission. Based on the chemical fiber PhD degree authorization center authorized in 1990, the current MaterialogyDoctor’s degree authorization center
becomes a national key subject which has beenco-constructed and shared with other departments of the university. So far, the institute is qualified to authorize master’s degree and PhD degree of materials (polymer materials) and of materials engineering. There are threePhD tutors and ninemaster tutors
. After thirty years of development,the institute has built a high-level academic team with profound academic attainments and a rational knowledge structure.There are nine full time researchers, includingone Sichuan province’s outstanding expert, two professors and three associate professors.Besides, there are a lot of roomsmore than 2,000 square meters’ for teaching and scientific research as well as more than 100 modern experimental instrument and apparatus for both general and special purposes.The institutestuff and teachers have undertaken several national research projects, such as “the project of National Natural Science Foundation”, “High-tech industrialization project of National Development and Reform Commission”, “the National Hi-Tech Research and Development Program (863)”, and “the SME innovation fund project of the Ministry of Science and Technology”
.Moreover, the institute received many Awards of Scientific and Technological Progress at national and provincial levels. Owing to the industrialization of the scientific research achievements and the extensive and in-depth industry-university-researchcooperation with industrials in the related fields, the finacial support from govements and businesses at all levels for researches has reached over 10 million yuanRMB in the past five years. More than 20 academic works have been published, of which“Modern Polymer Materials Science Series
(ten volumes)” and“English-Chinese dictionary of polymer science and engineering”
compiled by Professor Da-cheng Wu have contributed much to the progress of domestic polymer science. The graduates from the institute take on important positions in the fields of teaching and scientific research at home and abroad, both academic and engineering posts. Some of them have even grown into well-known experts and scholars. The main research directions of the institute: starch-based nanocomposites, thermoplastic starch materials, high performance textile sizes, nanocellulose, high performance waterborne polymers, high performance waterborne coatings, functional polymer materials, inorganic/organic nanocomposites, functional textiles, biomedical polymer materials, functional membrane materials, electrospinningnanofibers, light curing coatings and polymer materials for textile, etc.
