Key Laboratory of Leather Chemistry and Engineering of Ministry of Education, Sichuan University
The department of leather engineering of SichuanUniversity originated from the leather department of YanjingUniversity in 1921.The “leather/ fur and tanning agent”specialty was set up in chemical institute of SichuanUniversityin 1952 based on convergence of facultyin many schools. The leather engineering department was established in 1986 and the specialty of "leather chemistry and engineering" was awarded as the state key disciplines.After successfullyconstruction of "national professional laboratory of leather engineering" on the basis of state key disciplinein 1991,the "key Laboratory of Leather Chemistry and Engineering of Ministry ofEducation, Sichuan University”was established on August 17, 2000 and officially opened on the same day.
After efficiently construction of national “211” and “985” project, the Key Laboratory of Leather Chemistry and Engineering of Ministry of Educationpossess the top-class research conditions in China, including more than 5500 square meters construction area, 80 million yuan fixed investment and 1000 sets of leather/synthetic leather special manufacturing equipment and large-scale analytical instruments,the comprehensive scientific research capabilitieshas reached the leading level comparing with the similar Laboratoriesat home and abroad.It has undertaken a lot of projects from National Key Research &Development Program, National Natural Science Foundation of China, Program of 863,973 and industries, etc in recent years.Great achievements have been made inbasic research, technological development andachievements transformation, at the same time, large amount of high-quality talents of the leather chemistry and engineeringspecialty were cultivated.
The main research area of the key laboratory are:Chemistry of tannage;Protein chemistry and histology of the skin; Method, theory of tannage and clean
leather-making technology; Utilization of leather waste resources; Leather chemicals; Modern leather analysis and testing techniques etc.
