Our reporter Zheng Songwu visits a leading hospital in southwest China's Sichuan Province to learn more about the role medical staff play in helping patients fight cancer.

Cervical cancer, ovarian cancer, and endometrial cancer are the most common types impacting the female reproductive system. In West China Women's and Children's Hospital, patients with malignant tumors from southwest China seek treatment in the department of radiation and chemotherapy.
Most were naturally low in spirits when diagnosed with cancer, but through the help and support of doctors and nurses, they say they feel relieved and positive about their health and life in general.

GUAN DAN Patient, Germ Cell Tumor "I felt disheartened and couldn't accept the reality at first, but gradually I accepted it because I trusted the doctors. They were very professional and cared about both our health and livelihoods. I believe a positive mood is important."

Li Lu was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2023, and up to now, she's had thirty rounds of radiation therapy. She received her final round of treatment and was scheduled to leave the hospital when we met her, saying she's thankful for the medical staff, and personally moved by other patients in the department.

LI LU Cervical Cancer Patient "I'm not sure if you guys have felt it, but whenever I came to the hospital I was so encouraged by the other sisterly patients who suffered from malignant tumors. They love their life and they fight against their cancer in a positive way."

Around 2,000 cervical cancer patients are in the West China Women's and Children's Hospital, and all patients receive a combination of physical and mental treatment.

For those who were in good condition, we offered them regular psychological treatment. For those who were depressed, we offer them treatment one on one with our psychological consultants."

For anyone diagnosed  with cancer, the professor says it's important to seek the expertise of different doctors.

So if you're already diagnosed with tumors, I highly suggest you go to see different doctors or get multi-disciplinary treatment to receive proper initial treatment. In this way, the treatment can be more accurate."
