【 Brief Introduction 】

The predecessor of College of Architecture and Environment is referred to as School of Urban Construction and Environmental Protection, which was approved by the Ministry of Education in 1988. The college now consists of 4 departments: Department of Mechanics& Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering, Department of Environmental Science& Engineering and Department of Architecture.

Up to now, the college has formed 4 major disciplines: Mechanics, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science and Engineering, and Urban-Rural Planning. The college is characterized by its strong strength of technology& engineering combined with humanity, science with art, research with practice and teaching with innovation. It serves as an international frontrunner in scientific research, and also endeavours to boost local economic development in social services. With 5 Doctor's degree authorization centres of first-level discipline, 3 Professional Doctor's degree authorization centres, 5 Master’s degree authorization centres of first-level discipline, 5 Professional Master’s degree authorization centres and 4 Undergraduate degree programmes, the college has become a well-known fostering base for highly specialized talents in engineering mechanics, civil engineering, architecture and planning, environmental protection, etc. Over the past 20 years, the college has delivered more than 1550 graduates of PhD and master degree and over 6000 undergraduates. A number of the graduates have developed into leaders of their fields and backbones of enterprises and public institutions.

The college adheres to the school running philosophy of "academic orientation, leading teaching, integrity, tranquility and harmony", closely follows the national strategic deployment, actively serves the green development of urbanization and "the the Belt and Road" going out and other strategies, continues to create conditions with an open attitude, attracts first-class talents, and strives to achieve the grand goal of building a first-class discipline and specialty.

【 Department of Mechanics& Engineering 】

The Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering began in 1944 with the former Department of Aviation Engineering at Sichuan University. In 1957, the former Chengdu University of Science and Technology established the Department of Mathematical Mechanics, which was one of the first mechanical majors in China. In 1979, the Department of Engineering Mechanics was established at Chengdu University of Science and Technology. After the merger of the three universities, the Department of Applied Mechanics at Sichuan University was established in 2001 and renamed as the Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering in 2005. The Department of Mechanics currently has a bachelor's degree in Engineering Mechanics, a doctoral degree authorization point in the first level discipline of Mechanics, and a postdoctoral mobile station in Mechanics. Mechanics is a key discipline at the first level of Sichuan Province, a key construction and advanced deployment discipline group of Sichuan University's "Double First Class" initiative, and the main disciplines are solid mechanics, biomedical engineering (co-construction) and other national key disciplines.

The Department of Mechanics has 4 provincial and ministerial level platforms, including the Key Laboratory of Deep Earth Science and Engineering of the Ministry of Education, the Sichuan Provincial Key Laboratory of Catastrophic Mechanics and Engineering Disaster Prevention, the Sichuan Provincial Key Laboratory of Biomechanical Engineering, and the Sichuan Provincial Teaching Demonstration Center for Mechanics. There are also 3 international cooperation platforms, including the Sichuan University Cambridge Deep Earth Center.

【 Department of Civil Engineering 】

The Department of Civil Engineering at Sichuan University was first established in 1944. After undergoing departmental adjustments in New China, it began admitting undergraduate students majoring in Industrial and Civil Architecture in 1986. In 1987, it added majors in Urban Construction and Water Supply and Drainage, and in 2011, it added majors in Engineering Cost. Against the background of the construction of Double First Class disciplines at Sichuan University, and in response to the future transformation and upgrading of the civil engineering industry and the needs of the national sustainable development strategy, Sichuan University is the first in the country to integrate 4 majors in civil engineering, namely civil engineering, water supply and drainage science and engineering, engineering cost, and building environment and energy application engineering, into a new civil engineering major, drawing on the broad caliber training system of international renowned universities.

The Civil Engineering major of Sichuan University is seeking innovation in its development, gradually forming a distinctive educational feature of "emphasizing foundation, wide caliber, interdisciplinary, and internationalization", and becoming an important base for talent cultivation in western urbanization construction. Civil engineering has a first-class doctoral authorization point and a postdoctoral research mobile station. The first level discipline of civil engineering is a key discipline in Sichuan Province, and the second level discipline of geotechnical engineering is a national key discipline. And there are 1 key laboratory of the Ministry of Education, 2 international cooperation bases of the Ministry of Science and Technology, 5 key laboratories (centers) of Sichuan Province, and 1 international cooperation base of Sichuan Province, which is one of the key disciplines under the "Double First Class" construction of Sichuan University.

【 Department of Environmental Science and Engineering 】

The research in the field of environmental science at Sichuan University began in the 1970s. The Department of Environmental Science and Engineering was established in 1986. In 1990, the Environmental Engineering program began admitting master's students. In 2003, the Environmental Science program began admitting doctoral students. In 2005, it was granted the right to confer doctoral degrees in the first level discipline of Environmental Science and Engineering. In 2007, a postdoctoral mobile station was established. In 2018, a new Environmental Engineering program was established by integrating Environmental Science and Environmental Engineering. In 2019, it was granted the right to confer doctoral degrees in Resources and Environmental Engineering. In 2019, it was selected as one of the first national first-class undergraduate program construction sites in Environmental Engineering. This department has 2 national engineering centers, 7 provincial and ministerial level key laboratories and engineering technology centers, and 4 international cooperation research centers.

Under the background of the "Double First Class" construction, the environmental engineering major is steadily advancing towards the construction of a distinctive, domestically first-class, and internationally renowned profession.

【 Department of Architecture 】

The Department of Architecture was established in 1988 and is an internationally renowned and influential department of architectural education and research in China. There are currently 3 teaching and research departments of architecture, urban-rural planning, and landscape architecture, as well as an art teaching and research group and an architectural comprehensive laboratory. After the professional integration in 2019, the Department of Architecture currently has authorization points for undergraduate degrees in architecture, master's and doctoral academic degrees in primary disciplines of urban and rural planning, as well as master's professional degrees in urban-rural planning and landscape architecture.

The Department of Architecture adheres to the educational philosophy of Sichuan University, which is "people-oriented, academic oriented, and pursuit of excellence". Guided by "elite education, quality education, integration of science and education, and interdisciplinary", it established the educational purpose of cultivating innovative talents with comprehensive advantages, moral integrity, and international competitiveness oriented to human settlement and environmental science.
