From August 18 to 20, the 22ndNational Conference on Fatigue and Fracture (hereinafter referred to as the conference) was held in Chengdu, co-sponsored by the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, Chinese Society for Corrosion and Protection, Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, Chinese Materials Research Society, Chinese Society of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and the Chinese Society for Metals. The event was jointly hosted by Sichuan University and Chengdu University. Professor Wang Qingyuan from our university and Professor Feng Xiqiao, Vice President of the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, served as co-chairs of the conference. 878 experts, scholars and students from 210 units at home and abroad participated in this session, marking the highest attendance in the history of the conference. The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Zhou Youhe from Lanzhou University who is the Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The conference included nine specialized breakout sessions focused on themes such as "Fatigue and Fracture Mechanics" and "Fatigue Damage and Fracture Mechanisms," as well as two sessions dedicated to postgraduate students. Collectively, there were 55 invited presentations, over 270 oral presentations, and 11 poster presentations, thereby facilitating comprehensive and high-quality academic exchanges among peers.
Fatigue and fracture mechanics represent a distinctive strength and research direction within our university's National Key Discipline in Solid Mechanics. Xie Heping has made significant contributions to rock fracture mechanics, pioneering a new area in fractal geometry related to rock damage and fracture, and his research was awarded the National Natural Science Second Prize. In recent years, substantial advancements have also been made in ultra-long-life fatigue and dynamic rock fracture research, with Wang Qingyuan leading a project that received the National Natural Science Second Prize, and Dai Feng being honored with the "Scientific Exploration Award." The youth research team in this domain has significantly grown, having developed five national-level young talents in the past five years.
Under the auspices of the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics and other sponsoring societies, our university took the lead in carefully organizing the conference, and the staff and volunteers worked hard to ensure that the conference was successfully held , leading to positive feedback from participants.
